This song is about the love and freindship between two children at school. The two children are meant to represent Taylor and Ed as they follow their charteristics. I ultimately like this song because of the music vidoe and the way it is constructed.
How Many Shots Are There In The Music Video?
for quite a slow ballad song there were a lot of shots in there with a total of 142 shots altogther which considering the genre was a high count. The reason I think it is so high is because the whole music video is narative based following the story of this young couple in school, so to tell the story correctlythere had to be lots of shots so that the story could be followed and understood by the audience.
Where Were The Cuts In The Music Video Made?
Most of the cuts for the music video were pretty random because of the narative, so there wasnt much cuts to the beat of the music apart from the last beat and shot were at the same time. There weren't many jump cuts in the music video because it had to follow on chronologically, following back onto Propp's theory of having film in order. By doing this, the audience were able to feel like they were watching a short movie just to the words of Swift's song, which is a very common effect in music videos.
Did The Music Video Shrink Or Expand?
In my theory I believe the music video expanded time by the amount of slow motion shots that were added in. But then it also shrank time by using los of quick changing shots inbetween the slow motion ones. By doing this, they were able to get a full day at school and all the important scenes into a 4 minute music video. The slow motion shot's almost definatly had a panning camera technique either panning around them or zooming in.This gave an overall dream effect to the video and made it seem like it was all a fantasy.
