Research - Costume

for the costume we were thinking that maybe we could get a simple dress and then maybe add to it. looking at the star image and appearance of Amanda Rodgers shows that she herself is very naturistic and bearly uses any makeup. she tends to also stick to neutral colours.

We decided on a natural colour scheme such as light blues and greens and whites. The dresses will mainly be neutral colours such as white and cream. we have also chosen a colourful dress to contrast at the end to show that she has changed, and become one with the nature.

Here are a few images that i have compiled together as a mood board.

Hair and Makeup

We wanted the hair and make up to be as natural as possible. Considering that our actor has short hair we would curl the hair slightly and style the hair half up half down with a flower band or flowers in her hair. When we look at Amanda and then listen to the song, we expect to see things so natural it is almost hippy like. So lots of plaits and things like that.

For the he make up we  were just gonna stick with the basic, a touch of mascara and foundation. the only touch of colour would be a slight gold glitter on the her lits to make her eyes stick out more and to attract and captivate the audience.

Story Board

This is the story board that Cary drew to represent what we want ultimately our video to look like.

1) Camera tracks the twigs and the red thread over the ground. Hear sounds of twigs in distance.
we want to achieve a very different opening and something that catches the audiences attention. We thought the sound of the twigs crackingg under her feet would be a good representation of the first shot of nature and is a cool feature to our video
2)Camera tracks her feet walking as the music begins.
Our main character is revaling slowly and also makes a start to our track.
3)Camera tracks up rogers and reveales her face.
Our main character is finally shown and intorduced to the audience. The tracking up the body adds to that mystery of who it's going to be.
4)The camera revolves around her face from the side (close up) depth of feild only on Amanda.
We want the audence to have that first connection with Amanda and almost step into her shoes.

5)Rogers sings the opening lines.
Again this shot is to connect with the audince singing out to them looking directly into the camera.
6)"I will find a silver linning sometime"
Have a nature song of the sky, possibly silver linning sky, lyrics and visuals match.
7)"Blur my vision" camera from blurred (soft) to sharp focus
Again visuals matching lyrics and alos showing off nature and perhaos an eye-line matching shot.
8)Intercut shots of nature
Showing off the nature and showing/promoting to the audience what kind of person Amanda Rogers is.

9)Close-up shots of Amanda's feet, running through walk way "burn the pages.."
This is to show the build up of the song and that the pace has changed- sound matching visuals
10)"with every smile and every laugh"
Camera pans around Heartwood tree showing Amanda performing infront of it, indicating this tree shows some significance to the video.
11)"Will not be seen"Amanda hides-dress peeking from behind the tree
Shows that she is incsecure of her imperfections which she is literally hiding behind a tree
12)"Burn forever in my mind"
Buring of a picture of a model, shows that that kind of beauty in magazines is not true beauty

13)"And those greens and those blues" Camera pans across Amanda
shot of Rogers performing and showing the greens of the grass
14)"And those blues" shot (high angle) of trees and blue skies
Lyrics matching visuals by showing blue skies when she says "and those blues"
15)"There's something I will always lack" long shot of photo tree- close up of photos
Introducing the photo tree to the audience and showing that she thinks she will never be as good as vogue or any other magazine model
16)Amanda runs towards camera at a high angle, long shot
Introduces flowy long dress, looks aesthetically pleasing and daramatic with dress flowing in wind.

17)"This beauty is not clear to me..." close-ups of Amanda, direct eye-contact
connecting with the audience singing out to them
18)"To me, to me, to me..." mid shots, arms out playing with dress.
Shows her fun and playful side to the audience and a bit of her personality come through in this shot
19)"The pages of the magazines"
This is the scene where Amanda overcomes this fake beauty and rips all the photo's down and almost cleansing her soul and releasing her inner beauty.
20)Last verse of song...Multi shots
The pace has picked up and we wanted to show this by multi shots shanging to the beat of the music.

21)"This beauty will be clearer" midshot of Amanda by Heartwood tree.
The last few shots show her last connection with the audience as the song begins to finish
22)"To me..." Amanda looks directly into camera
You see her stripped of all the fake beauty and just standing naturally singing the last line to the audience
23) Close-up of hand and heart
Showing that she has found her inner beauty at last.

Shot List

The shot list was split into two main parts, the shooting at Langley Park and the Shooting at Black Park. Seeing as Lnagley Park was more important in terms of the location of our musci video, we decided that they would be first in order of the shot list.
We ordered the shots in the order of priority and put things such as the run through of the song sitting in the tree twice, because they were the most crucial and mostly all our performance elements of our video was going to be in those two shots. The things that we thought were least important were the nature shots as we felt that we could film those at anytime, and it wouldnt really matter that much if they were filmed on a separate day alltogther.
For Black Park, we decided that the red thread opening was the most important thing that we needed to film here as it was the opening of our entire music video, and we wanted to make sure that our music video has a right feel from the very beginning. The least important shots at Black Park went to any pickup shots that we needed to do in any of the two parks and if we needed to re-shoot a certain bit or didnt have enough time.

Ideas And Illustrations

These are just some of our ideas that we have come up with so far regarding mostly costume and shot lists. Doing these illustrations really helps as it gives us a visual guide  of what we want so when it comes round to doing the real thing, we are prepared for what was thrown at us in any circumstances. Having the visual representation helps with us deciding what is to come next because it is right infront of us.
Embedded image permalinkA few of the ideas that we have come up with is the idea of having a long flowing dress so when we do the slow motion shots, it will blow in the wind and create a beautiful elegant effect. This also copies Amanda's style with the dresses and represents her wile and free personality. This is ultimately what we found and ould like to recreate in shots, but if we cannot find any floating dresses we would go for a body con dress and attach bits of floating fabric onto it to give the same effect.

Cary has been put in charge of doing the storyborads like last year and i'm sure she will do and excellent job in making it look professional. It is very important that we have these drawings as accurate as possible so we can mimic them on the day of filming. Storyboarding is probaly one of the most important parts of the post-production, soputting Cary in charge was a wise descision because she will make it look exactly like we want it.

I had this idea for one of the shots that you would have Amanda coloured black and white (obviously this would have to be edited in on Colour) standing in a room covered in magazine articles. As she rips of the magazine articles, they turn to newspaper in black and white and Amanda slowly turns to colour again. This transfer of colour will let the audience know the change in her and will help them to undertsnad the message of our music video. The important point that the magazines turns to newspaper is to get accross to the auidence that like the newspapers, you shouldn't believe everything thats in a magazine, and half the girls and things in there are fake. As tihs shot has a high possiblity of not working, we are going to do some practice shots of this. If it does not work in the practice shots, then we will take this shot out.

Location Research - Langley Park

The second location that we visited was Lnagley Park, and after looking at it we have decided that this is where we will be doing most of our filming. This is because the area we thought was alot nicer and had a lot more oppertunities for really good shots and fitted the personality of the song we chose. When we visited Langley Park it was btween the afternoon and evening sunset. after seeing what the area was like around this time, we decided that we would film around that time too. The fact that this location is less crowed, means that we could achieve the shots that we wanted without having people obstructing our filming. So our group decided that we would shoot in both locations, but the worry is because of the lack in difference of the two locations, will make the audience get bored so we may have consider a different location as well as the ones we already have.

As we came across this tree, we thought that it represented Amanda's image and her album 'Heartwood'. this will definatly be one of the locations that we use. This would also support the heartwood theory of ' there is growth in everything, even death'. The heartwood is the centre is the centre of tree that is not living, but if the tree did not have the heartwood, it wouldnt live. And as the tree grows and gets bigger so does the haertwood eventhough its dead, hence the heartwood theory.

From an angle this tree looks like it had a heart in it, and we had the idea that this could feature in our advert and CD cover, as it is one of our prime locations.

we plan to incorpertate this den if it hasnt been knocked down by the time we get filming.
